Today, after talking to my friend, I realized that bigotry and hateful people are taught certain things. When I was a kid, and learning about sex and where babies come from, I was told one line over and over again … “When two PEOPLE fall in love, they get married, and have a family.” If only that were the case. But at the time I was maybe five or six and believed it. It took me today to realize how much that line has effected my thinking. I am not a hateful, bible-quoting, bigoted asshole. I have tons of friends who are LGBT. I adore them all, and love them with all my heart.

My friend on the other hand (who was taught that love was only between a man and a woman) started to quote the Old Testament  when I told her why I was laughing so hard, (it was something I read about Neil Patrick Harris) and I seriously wanted to strangle her. She found it disgusting and wrong, where I found it funny and oh so HOT. I came close to quoting Castiel from Supernatural - “God is indifferent to sexual orientation,” but then she walked away and went to playing her Wii. But I’m wondering if she was told what I was told when I was a little girl, how different she’d be now.

So, if your kid asks you about love and sex and where babies comes from, think about when they grow up, how you want them to think about love and sex. Do you want them to be hating assholes that have the same hateful beliefs as NC or do you want this world to grow and accept. For me, I will always say “When two PEOPLE fall in love …”
